VALENTINA’S POPS UP AT LULIE TAVERN FOR A WHOLE WEEKEND IN FEBRUARY

Sydney’s favourite American-style diner, Valentina’s, is popping up at Lulie Tavern, Melbourne’s home of old-time rock n roll, for a whole weekend from the 18-19th of February and it’s a match made deep-fried, syrup covered heaven.

For a whole weekend, Melbournites will be able to experience for themselves what everyone in Sydney has been raving about for the past year and half. From February 18-19th, Lulie Tavern will be extending its business hours, opening the doors from 10am and welcoming Valentina’s, Sydney’s favourite American-style diner, into the Lulie kitchen for a whole weekend pop-up. The kitchen will be open until 10pm on Saturday and 9pm on Sunday, so you can truly get the all-day-diner experience. Lulie will also be pumping tunes until their usual close time of 1am both nights, with DJ Ginger Taylor on the Saturday night and a live performance by local band Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits on Sunday evening.

The holy union between Valentina’s and Lulie Tavern has been in the works for about a year now and the Sydney-based diner is more than ready to burst into the Abbotsford venue and take Melbourne by storm. Scott Clark (Valentina’s co-owner) describes the event as “fun, delicious and collaborative”, and explains “we’re so excited to bring a taste of our venue to Lulie Tavern and work together with the talented team there. We can’t wait to meet lots of new faces and bring what we love doing to one of our favourite venues in Melbourne.”

Valentina’s are bringing their a-game and have gotten together a solid Sydney crew who will help bring that Tina’s feel to the Melbourne music institution. Head chef, Chris Bull, will be at the helm for the weekend, and the Valentina’s team will work with Lulie Tavern chefs and staff to deliver a few of the Sydney menu staples. Helping represent the Sydney/Marrickville contingent, Marrickville legends and Sydney’s best brewery, The Grifter Brewing Co., are coming along for the ride. For the whole weekend, Lulie-goers will be able to try a Grifter Pale on tap or a Daisy Hazy Pale Ale by the can. Grifter co-founder, Matt King is super on board and “excited to bring a little slice of Marrickville to Abbotsford. I am really proud of the beers that are made here and the venues that serve them.”

The menu for the weekend will feature a selection of Valentina’s favourites such as breakfast sandwiches on This is Us English muffins, pancakes (as big as your head), the club sandwich, patty melt and of course Valentina’s signature dish, the Tina Classic. To get you up

to speed, The Tina Classic is a staple of the Marrickville diner and gives you a great selection of the kitchen’s offerings; you get the choice of a pancake or an English muffin, eggs, bacon, and a handful of deliciously seasoned home fries. It’s no wonder this is the widespread favourite amongst Valentina’s regulars, it’s the best way of getting all your breakky favourites (and some extras) on the one big plate!

In true collaborative spirit, Lulie Tavern have also brought Fin Wines, Jameson and Coffee Supreme on board for the event. No strangers to a pop-up, Lulie are super excited to be working with Val’s, as Lulie co-owner Jon-Lee Farrell explains “Valentina’s feels like our long-lost diner sibling, standing for all we love in hospitality. The very best in everyone’s favourite foods, red hot service, a place you want to visit every day of the week because it makes you feel like home. Lulie is a place where the time of the day is irrelevant, once you’re inside, you’re in your comfort zone, so what better food to serve up than all day breakfast?!”
